Failure mode of composite pressure vessel

When designing composite pressure vessels, we must first understand the failure modes of composite pressure vessels.

The main function of the composite pressure vessel is to store the medium. When it loses the ability to store the medium, the vessel is judged to be invalid. The composite pressure vessel consists of an inner lining layer and a composite material layer. The failure of the container can be divided into two types: the inner lining layer failure and the composite material layer failure.

The inner lining of the composite pressure vessel is mainly used for airtightness. The stored medium is corrosive. The inner lining is in direct contact with the corrosive medium for a long time. It is easy to cause defects in the inner lining and cause the container to leak, and finally make the entire container Also invalidated.

Compared with the inner lining, the composite material layer has many more failure modes, including fiber breakage, fiber degumming, fiber delamination and so on. In the process of use and transportation, composite pressure vessels are vulnerable to external impacts, and the outer surface of the container is broken, which greatly reduces the load-bearing capacity. If it is used for a long time, it will easily lead to the failure of the container; fiber degumming is also common Failure mode, since the matrix material is mainly resin, its strength is much smaller than the strength of the reinforced fiber. After long-term work in a high-strength environment, the resin is easy to fall off, causing stress concentration in nearby fibers, and finally fiber breaks leading to container failure ; The composite material layer is made of fiber entangled, composed of many layers, the interaction force between each layer is relatively small, and it is prone to delamination failure.
