Conical head

The head is widely used in various containers and is a pivotal structure in the container. Under normal circumstances, the head is used at both ends of the container and is welded to the container cylinder to play a role of sealing or transition. The design and manufacturing quality of the head is directly related to whether the container can operate safely and reliably for a long time. Therefore, we should usually be familiar with the design process and influencing factors of the head.

According to the difference of head geometry, size and purpose, heads can be divided into oval heads, spherical crown heads, dish heads, cone heads, flat caps, etc. Oval heads are actually used in many cases, and the heads used in normal pressure vessels, medium pressure and low pressure vessels are preferred to use oval heads. Spherical crown-shaped heads are often used in the middle heads of two independent pressure spaces, or the two end heads of a vessel with lower pressure.

This article mainly introduces the relevant content of the conical head. The tapered head is often used to connect two sections of cylinders with different diameters to play the role of connecting transition, usually called a variable diameter section. Common application examples include pig receivers, reboilers, towers, etc.

  Types of tapered heads

The design of the conical head can be in accordance with the relevant regulations in GB150 "Pressure Vessel". GB150 "Pressure Vessel" is mainly aimed at axisymmetric cone-shaped heads without or with flanges with a half apex angle α ≤ 60°. At the same time, GB150 divides the cone head into several different types according to the thickness of the cone head and whether the big end and the small end of the head are folded.

Commonly used in engineering are mainly the same thickness of non-folded oblique cone shells, a combination of multi-section cone shells with the same half apex angle and different thicknesses, cone shells with folded edges and straight sections at the large or small end, and The large end or the small end has a non-folded cone shell with a reinforced section.

In the design process, according to the actual situation and engineering parameters, through calculation, the specific type of conical head required is determined to meet the specific requirements of strength and use.
